To maintain the high standards of track maintenance and preserve both the integrity and presentation of the venue, a Competition Arena & Warm Up Arena General Training Layout program has been implemented, participants must familiarise themselves with this prior to participating.
The general training layout program will be reinforced to protect and preserve the synthetic track surface.
- All areas marked blue on the layout map are open for all General Training sessions
- All areas marked red on the layout map are closed on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday general training sessions
- Monday, Wednesday and Saturday general training sessions operate as normal with no track restrictions or closed areas

Parking
Parking is available in P2 with 4 hours free. Please see staff upon entry to receive a 4 hours free parking voucher before returning to your vehicle.
Lightning Policy
A lightning policy is in effect at the Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre. Staff reserve the right to restrict access to the arena in the event of lightning.
All Weather Track
The athletic track is an all weather surface and will remain open in all weather conditions unless deemed too dangerous by venue staff.
Equipment
A limited amount of general athletic equipment and training implements are available for use during General Training, including these below:
- Rakes, brooms and tape measures
- High jump/pole vault uprights and bar
- Limited number of hurdles
- Limited throwing implements including javelin, shot put, discus and hammers

Spikes
Only 'Pyramid' or 'Christmas Tree' spikes (also called compression tiered spikes) are to be used on the track for athletic activity. Needle spikes are not permitted. Spikes are only permitted on competition areas and must not be work in spectator areas or indoors.
Maximum spike lengths:
- Running activity maximum of 7mm
- Throw and jump activity maximum of 9mm
For track preservation and longevity, all athletes wearing spikes muse use starting blocks in laned events up to and including 400m and the first runner of a relay. Master athletes and Par athletes excluded.
