Shape the future of our parklands

Locals to shape the future of the Millennium Parklands

Sydney Olympic Park Authority (SOPA) is seeking nominations from local community members and individuals with a diverse range of backgrounds and expertise to shape the future of the parklands at Sydney Olympic Park.

The Parklands Advisory Committee will advise SOPA and their Board on the community’s aspirations for the ongoing care and management of the parklands at Sydney Olympic Park, which encompass Bicentennial Park, Blaxland Riverside Park, Wentworth Common and adjacent nature reserves.

SOPA welcomes applications from individuals with knowledge or experience in urban parklands planning and designing, active recreation and leisure, environmental management, heritage management and activation, public spaces, and cultural and nature tourism. Applications from First Nations people and local residents with a connection to the parklands are encouraged.

"I am delighted that the advisory committee has been opened up to include local community members in setting the direction for this treasured green space.” said Paul Scully, Minister for Planning and Public Spaces.

Sydney Olympic Park spans 430 hectares of diverse urban parklands which includes the largest strand of Grey Mangrove in Sydney at the Badu Mangroves, 35 kilometres of cycling tracks, 250 native wildlife species and 400 plant species, and over 100 Heritage buildings in the State Heritage listed Newington Armament Depot.

Our parklands play a significant role in maintaining and enhancing strong connections to Country. There are few urban parklands with this extraordinary range of natural features and recreational opportunities, and we are excited to work with the new advisory committee to help make the best decisions for the parklands at Sydney Olympic Park.” said Carla Armanet, CEO of Sydney Olympic Park Authority.
