Nedd’s 1,000-mile run
at the Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre.
Sydney Olympic Park is excited to provide the stage for another world record attempt today, with electrician-turned-runner, and overall legend, Nedd Brockmann commencing Nedd’s Uncomfortable Challenge. He’s undertaking a 1,000-mile run at the Athletic Centre to raise much-needed funds for homelessness prevention.
Never one to shy away from a challenge, Nedd will aim to break a world record that’s stood since 1988, that’s 11 years longer than he’s been alive. On the hallowed Athletic Centre track, he’ll be running 1,000 miles (1,610km) in 10 days, and he’s gunning toward an ambitious $10,000,000 fundraising target for homelessness prevention in Australia. Currently held by Greek-Australian ultramarathon runner Yiannis Kouros, a 10-time world record holder, the record won’t be an easy one to beat – but Nedd’s up to the challenge.
Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre is delighted to be providing the support, the access and, crucially, the track for Nedd’s mind-blowing run. Pounding the 400m track at the Athletic Centre, Brockmann will be running in spirit with champion athletes that came before him – Marjorie Jackson, Betty Cuthbert, Denis Wilson, Jana Rawlinson, Bob Lay – all names that adorn the plaques of the Athletic Centre Path of Champions, honouring Olympic and Paralympic athletes, world champions and record holders. Should Nedd achieve his goal, he’ll be in world-class company.
"I'm absolutely pumped to be taking on this challenge at Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre. It's a world-class venue that’s been central to athletics in New South Wales, and I’m stoked to be here. The team at Sydney Olympic Park Authority have been incredible in facilitating my unique challenge, which wouldn’t have been possible without their support. I would also like to thank their tenants, especially Athletics NSW, for the support” said Nedd Brockmann.
Brockmann will be eating, sleeping and running inside the venue, with the challenge starting today, 3 October and continuing through to Sunday 13 October 2024.
“We are thrilled to support Nedd’s ambitious uncomfortable challenge, and we’ll be cheering him on to success” said Susan Skuodas, Acting CEO, Sydney Olympic Park Authority.
“We are proud to provide the Athletic Centre as a platform for his world record attempt. The iconic blue track has been the stage for aspiring athletes at school carnivals and national championships, as well as record-breaking performances by Olympic and Paralympic legends. It’s so inspiring to see the Athletic Centre being used to raise awareness for such an important cause.” she continued.
The challenge doesn’t end when Nedd’s done, though. From 20-29 October, he’s challenging everyone to set their own Uncomfortable Challenges, be they personal or physical, and raise critical funds to support their fellow Australians.
Sydney Olympic Park is the perfect place to be inspired by past Aussie champions and complete your own personal challenge, with plenty of venues and facilities available for use.
Smash out as many laps as you can at the Aquatic Centre; conquer the waves at URBNSURF; channel Katniss Everdeen at the Archery Centre; or make the most of one the Park’s free outdoor gym facilities, running paths or bicycle tracks throughout Bicentennial Park. With this many options at your fingertips, there’s nothing stopping you from getting uncomfortable and crushing your goals for a great cause at Sydney Olympic Park this October.
