Sydney Showground wins ‘Best Event Venue'
Sydney Showground wins ‘Best Event Venue, capacity more than 1000,’ at the 2024 MEA National Awards for the second year.
At Sydney Olympic Park Authority, we pride ourselves in the world-class venues that reside in the precinct. These iconic spaces stand as testaments to innovation and excellence, welcoming athletes, performers, and spectators from around the globe.
Sydney Showground has been named ‘Best Event Venue, Capacity more than 1,000’ at the Meetings and Events Australia (MEA) National Awards held in the Hunter Valley last night, thanks to its contribution to the events industry between 1 January - 31 December 2023.
The venue, which celebrated a record-breaking year in 2023, delivered over 250 events during this time including the successful execution of the FIFA International Broadcast Centre for the Women’s World Cup - an activation which took over the venue for a total of 107 days.
Sydney Showground Director of Sales & Marketing, Andrew Roberts, said it’s an honour to be recognised for the second year in a row by the industry following such a successful year for the venue.
“It’s been an incredible 12 months for our team; we welcomed a range of new clients, hosted world tours, and supported countless consumer and corporate expos, all the while delivering an international broadcast centre for a world-class sporting event
“The backbone to that success is our incredible team who work tirelessly to ensure every event is effectively executed, each client is supported and the unimaginable is made possible. This award is for them,” he added.
In addition to delivering an array of events, Sydney Showground also took important steps in its venue’s sustainability by launching a three-year Environmental, Social, and Governance strategy and committing to the goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050 alongside the Sydney Olympic Park Authority.
As the venue and event management business of the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW, Sydney Showground is one of Australia’s oldest event organisations with its first event dating back to 1883, when the RAS ran the first Sydney Royal Easter Show at Parramatta.
Sydney Showground generates approximately $617 million in annual economic benefit to the state of New South Wales.
