A five-year Public Space Waste Management Strategy has been developed by the Authority to set high standards and targets for waste diversion from landfills and commence the path towards a circular economy. The Authority is now developing a five-year whole-of-government waste contract to improve resource recovery rate in the public domain and sports venues.

Sydney Olympic Park is home to Australia’s most successful integrated water recycling system saving over 900 million litres of water annually. Harvested water is used for irrigation, ornamental fountains, and toilet flushing across all of the Park’s sports and entertainment venues, office buildings and apartments, as well as homes in the adjacent suburb of Newington and Newington Public School.
